Dr. Gisela María Suárez Formigo is a distinguished Research and Development Project Manager and concurrently serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor at United Arab Emirates University. A Cuban and Italian national, she embarked on her academic journey at the Medical University of Santiago de Cuba, where she completed her six-year program, earning her Medicine Doctor (MD) degree in 2012. Subsequently, she pursued her passion for immunology and enrolled in the Victoria de Giron Institute of Basic and Preclinical Sciences at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana (UCMH), where she attained her Specialty’s degree in Immunology in 2017, with a focus on basic and clinical immunology. Dr. Formigo’s commitment to advancing her expertise in immunology led her to pursue ongoing educational and research pursuits, including working towards a master’s degree in Basic Immunology and a PhD with a focus on Immunosenescence and Inflammaging at the Center of Molecular Immunology in La Habana. She also holds the position of an Associate Professor of Immunology, where she imparts her knowledge to medical students, resident immunology students, and biotechnologists.
Dr. Formigo is a highly skilled immunologist, proficient in various immunoenzymatic techniques such as ELISA, microscopy, and cell biology. Her expertise extends to the identification of immune system cells, cell counting, flow cytometry, and more. She also possesses strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis tools. With a rich academic background and extensive research experience, she has contributed to several publications over the last five years in prestigious scientific journals, addressing critical topics in immunology. Gisela is an active member of scientific societies such as the Latin American Association of Immunology (ALAI) and has been involved in committees evaluating the efficacy of Cuban vaccines and pharmacovigilance risk assessment for vaccination against COVID-19. Outside her professional life, she is an environmentally conscious individual with a passion for music, playing the piano, and reading books. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to finding a successful treatment for cancer, reflecting her strong motivation, responsibility, and dedication to her work.
Dr. Formigo currently holds the position of Research and Development Project Manager at ADSCC in addition to her role as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), UAE University. She brings more than 12 years of professional experience in Clinical and Research, publishing articles and developing patents. Furthermore, she is actively pursuing a master’s in project management and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Higher European Institute of Barcelona. She is also a distinguished member of The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy.
